New wheels and tires - should I do an alignment before my spacers arrive?

These babies rub on full lock and are too close to the ICAs. Spidertrax hubcentric spacers are one the way, but I scheduled alignment for tomorrow.

Should I wait to do the alignment after I install the spacers or does it not matter?

Technically speaking, the spacers would add a leverage from the tire on the suspension, as well as amplify any inconsistencies in the alignment. That added leverage would change some suspension geometry. Personally speaking , I’ve added spacers after an alignment and nothing changed. I'd vote to just do the alignment after though since the spacers are on their way.

Wheels spacers wont affect the alignment.

why you need spacers? not enough offset on the new wheels?

What’s rubbing? The tire? Spacers may make that worse. That looks like a tire size issue and not an offset issue. I’ve seen a few 1st gen Tundras run 4Runner wheels without issue, but usually on stock size tires.

Tire rubs on full lock, and Tundras.com solution is the exact spacer for these exact wheels. I have another set of 4runner wheels from a Trail edition but these tires are larger.

That’s what I needed! Thanks.

Yup. These tires are 1.6" larger OD, and .4" wider than the stock. I guess the offset+larger tire is making them be super close to the UCAs and they rub on the inside. Not really a big deal - I could probably just ignore it, but I want to handle it now.

yeah, thats the issue that pushed my buddy to get the wheels he has on his tacoma. Accidental upside, now his wheels and tires are exactly compatible with my wheels and tires.

Cool. I could probably stand with moving my caster back a smidge. I’ve got a light rub against the front liner on the 4Runner, but only full lock/reverse. I went with 275s based on the being least likely to rub.  I know 285s on the 4Runner can lead to either rubbing on the body mount, or if you get spacers, then they rub on the fender liner. Trimming the liner fixes that.

Have you shared a full shot of the Tundra with those wheels, from that shot, they look good.

Those look sweet. I got a screaming deal on this set, 5 wheels and KO2 tires so I can have my spare done properly as well. I don’t want to spend more money of wheels right now though.

I already have 32" tires. 22" would give me 2.5" sidewalls. Not optimal.

the less sidewall, the better

Next on the list - $400 or so to paint the topper in a matching color. It was free, so I won’t feel that bad making it look good. I don’t want to be “that guy “ in my new neighborhood with color  mismatched 20 year truck.

Nope. Your opinion is wrong and you should be ashamed of it.

Thanks! She is 20 years old - I bought her brand new and drove her for 2 years, then my dad drove her for 17, and I took over recently when he bought a 2018 Tundra. He... deferred a lot of service, so I spent a lot of time and money to make her look and feel good again.

The topper color, Thunder Gray Metallic 1C7 was a way more common color for the Tundras - my truck is  Platinum Metallic 1A0. Maaco will paint it for $400, so that will be February I think.

I think mine was phantom gray metallic, but I could be wrong on the name. Bought new in 2002 then sold in 2004 when I got laid off. That’s when I first learned of Toyota’s resale value.

My mother in law mentions trading in their 2007 Tundra every once in a while. I want to offer to buy it from them, but with as generous as she is, it’d most likely end up delivered in front of our house as a surprise.

No such paint name in 2002

I spend a lot of time looking at 2005-2006 double cabs with low miles. I honestly think it’ s the best size truck ever made, and that bullet proof drivetrain is just a bonus.

My dad’s 2018 Crew Max is just too big, and that’s the same size as a 2007. They are just enormous.

Yup, mine was Thunder Gray. Those 1st gen DoubleCabs are indeed long. They’re longer than a 2nd gen CrewMax! But they have the super cool full down rear window!

Yeah, double cabs are long because they have a full bed behind them, not the shorty that the new crew max models have. I wish I had a double cab, but they weren’t even an option in 2000.
